At Bicycle Evolution, our philosophy is about focusing on the holistic experience of cycling and the rider, not just the bike. In late 2018, Bicycle Evolution teamed up with Coach Richard Wharton and his studio, Cycling Center Dallas, to help realize our goal of helping cyclists enjoy the ride through fitness, confidence, competence, and social connections.

“Coach Wharton and I both want to offer cyclists something beyond bike sales and service,” said Doug Davis, founder of Bicycle Evolution. “Richard has coached every type of cyclist you can name, from those fighting debilitating illness to the strongest racers in the business–bringing him on was an easy decision.”

“Doug and I have worked together before, starting in 1999, and we both have similar visions for the cycling industry,” said Richard Wharton, of Cycling Center Dallas. “We plan to offer a comprehensive, integrated experience that cyclists won’t find at a typical bike shop.”

About Cycling Center Dallas:

Cycling Center Dallas is led by Coach Richard Wharton. Coach wharton began his career in 1993, and he brings several unique levels of experience to our programs, including pioneering the concept of indoor wattage-based group training. Coach Wharton has been published in magazines and scientific journals and has lectured as a proponent of wattage-based training since 1995.  He wrote a book, “Watts per Kilogram”, in 2003, and has also consulted with multiple corporations globally on power meters and the application of wattage  for cycling fitness. His emphasis is on helping recreational cyclists get fit, improve their health and ability, and use cycling as a pathway to adventure and friendship.

About Bicycle Evolution:

Bicycle Evolution was founded by Doug Davis in 2018, a veteran of bicycle riding, racing, and cross-country adventures. As a diabetic and cancer survivor, Doug transitioned to recumbent cycling and velomobiles and continues to ride across states and nations. Along the way, Doug noticed a troubling decline in ridership and worried that the cycling industry was losing its base at a time when health and exercise were becoming more important than ever. Doug decided that it was time to make cycling and coaching available to everyone, regardless of health, fitness, income or physical limitations.
